Revision rhinoplasty — sometimes called secondary rhinoplasty — is surgery to correct or improve the result of a previous nose operation. The concern may be how the nose looks, how it breathes, or both at once.
It is generally more demanding than a first rhinoplasty. Scar tissue from the earlier surgery, altered anatomy and — often — a shortage of cartilage to work with all make the procedure more delicate and more dependent on the surgeon’s experience. This is not the place to choose by price alone.

A revision works through scar tissue and altered anatomy, often with little cartilage left to reshape. That usually calls for an open approach for full visibility, and frequently for cartilage grafts to rebuild structure and support.
When cartilage is needed, the gentlest source is used first: the septum, then the ear, and only where a major rebuild is required, a small amount of rib cartilage. Just as important is the airway. Many revision cases exist precisely because a first, appearance-only surgery weakened the breathing — so the septum and the internal valves are assessed and restored as part of the same plan, not left for later.

As a rule, wait at least twelve months after your previous rhinoplasty before having a revision. The nose needs that time for swelling to fully settle and tissues to soften, so that the true result — and what genuinely needs correcting — is clear.
Operating too soon, into tissue that is still healing and inflamed, makes delicate work harder and the outcome less predictable. For more complex cases the wait can be longer. The one exception is a clear functional problem — significant difficulty breathing — which is assessed on its own timeline. If it is better for you to wait, we will say so plainly.
Revision results in everyday life, once the longer swelling of a second operation has fully resolved. Every result is individual — these are representative examples, not a guarantee of your outcome.
Revision rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia and usually takes 2–4 hours — longer than a first operation, because scar tissue must be released and structure often rebuilt with cartilage grafts before the nose is reshaped and supported with a light splint.

Revision rhinoplasty is a well-established operation, but because it works through scarred, altered tissue it is more demanding than a first surgery — which is exactly why surgeon experience and an honest assessment matter so much. The risks are explained fully before you decide.
Most people return to everyday life within 7–14 days, once the cast is off and the early bruising fades. Because a revision involves more work, swelling settles more slowly — and the final, refined result appears over 12–18 months.

Good aftercare matters even more in a revision. The essentials are simple: rest with your head elevated, keep the area — and any graft donor site — clean and protected, avoid anything that raises pressure in the nose, and follow your surgeon’s guidance closely.
